You should not pass up the opportunity to see Kauai with Birds in Paradise. I had a blast on this trike (I describe it as a jet-powered hangglider). When I was a kid I used to dream I could fly like a bird and now I feel like that dream finally came true! It was a clear morning; we were able to fly over (through?) Waimea Canyon and the views were simply breathtaking. My instructor was wonderful. It's a well-run operation and I know I was in good hands -- they are very experienced, professional and take great care of the equipment. Ultralight = Ultrafun in Kauai. My wife and I went up on the Birds in Paradise powered hang-gliders and it was the high point of our trip. As an experienced paraglider I knew what to expect but I was a bit apprehensive about how much fun my wife would have. Awesome views, awesome experience. If you do one activity in the skies of Kauai, make it the 90 min flight instruction with Birds in Paradise. The feeling of buzzing up the runway and suddenly lifting off in the ultra-light trike is unlike any other flying experience I have ever had and I mean that in a positive sense! It could be described like a flying motorcycle seeing as the air rushes past you on all sides and you have a definite feeling of speed as you fly. The views of the Island of Kauai from the trike are awe inspiring and my instructor was very receptive to showing me different areas I wanted to see. With a calm patient manner the instructor starting instructing me on the actual operation of the trike flyer. He went over how to hold the operation bar, turn the aircraft and most important how to "feel" where the aircraft wanted to be for its best stability. Only after he felt I was ready and eager for the opportunity did the instructor have me grasp the control bar and start to do the course changes. I have never had such a positive feeling from participating in a "tourist attraction" and I feel that having the right instructor makes all the difference. I am now moving forward working to obtain my Sport Pilot flying license. Birds in Paradise and my instructor are the tops! Do not miss this! – southsidegirl, Chicago
Best time on our trip. This is as close as you can come to flying, I think. Way more fun than a helicopter or plane ride and you get a much closer and more intimate view of the island too. You may think it is pricey at first, but trust me... it is totally worth it! – mggator, New York
Awesome experience! This was the perfect way to end our week in Kauai. Not only do you get to see the island from the air, you learn about the area you are flying over. They have two-way communication between yourself and the pilot. The views are just outstanding and we felt very safe. Be sure to splurge on photos or a video of your flight! You won't regret it because when you get back home it's much easier to show the pics/dvd than to describe the flight. – TheJul, Missouri
A MUST DO! Truly the best part of our trip!!!! On our two-week stay in Kauai, we saw the island from the land, sea, and air (including a helicopter ride) and the best views hands down were from the gliders of Birds in Paradise. ...Wow! Birds in Paradise was the most fun adventure I took on my recent trip to Hawaii. We spent 5 out of our 10 days on the beautiful island of Kauai (rest on Maui). We are very active, in that we hike, bike, scuba dive…constantly explore. Maui was wonderful because we could drive almost everywhere on the island…up to the volcano crater, down the road to Hana, to a 400 foot waterfall, and more. Kauai is a bit different. You can not explore the Na’ Pali coast or seek out majority of the beautiful landscape unless you are in a kayak, boat, helicopter or fly with Birds in Paradise. We have heard stories about the helicopter – cool trip but not that special. And I love to kayak and boat, but there is a limited view of the entire mountain range and rainforest since the most beautiful portions are mainly inland (think waterfalls scattered along a popping green cliffs). Birds of Paradise was recommended to us from a friend back home, so we planned our trip one afternoon during our vacation. It was amazing!!!!!!! The airborne airplane/gliders were so much fun! It was like sky-diving backwards (up rather than down) but much safer. These planes are actually much safer than any airplane or helicopter! I even learned how to fly it myself (with the direction of my friendly pilot). The huge reason Birds in Paradise was so wonderful is that you are in an open air vehicle, so the views are limitless plus the rush of adrenaline of being 5,000 feet in the air over the beautiful island is mind blowing! Without a doubt, Birds of Paradise was the best adventure on our trip. I also recommend purchasing the 60-70 high def photos taken during your flight.
